Martha Murphy, Painter

I grew up in Massachusetts in a small town called Millis, and came to New York in 1979 to attend school. I’ve been here ever since. I am trained academically, and wrote and administered programs for the City, first in economic development and then in housing.  But I couldn’t get away from the visual beauty and historic evolution of this City,...what it is and what it can become.

There is a good chance you found this site from finding me on the street or from purchasing my art.  I thank the City of New York for allowing artists to sell this way, since it is a terrific opportunity for me to have dialogue about my work.  It definitely has helped me improve as a painter.

I am incredibly fortunate my art is now on every continent including Antarctica (got it there December 30, 2004).  My work is in a number of corporate collections, and a few are listed in my resume.

My success is largely because of your generous support and kindness, and it is with deep appreciation that I thank you.
